Inspiration!

Sat Oct 18, 2008, 10:38 AM
I have finally found some kind of inspiration! How long it will last is anyone's guess! I went to the Dulwich Picture gallery last week, and it was lovely, some really great paintings, and a lot but one guy i really like. David Teniers the younger. He painted peasants.

Anyway .. working on some new ideas now! which is good.

I really need to update this more! lack of motivation is distinctly the issue here ... I have done next to no artwork over the past year or so, and have lost the majority of inspiration.

I'm not sure what to put it down to ... full time work maybe? if so, then i'm not sure its very good for me. There is so much to be inspired by, and none of it seems to get through to me at the mo. I seem to have become a boring, uninspired potato, ... a braindead waste of space.

Hopefully this will change, but i just dont know really. Work seems to sap all of the very little energy I have, and whatever time i have left i seem to squander away, and have little ... mostly nothing, to show for it.

Is it being in London? whenever I come back here i seem to loose all oomph, maybe its just my version of London? Norfolk and Cornwall inspire me much more, there is room to breathe there, and let your imagination run away with you. But then I've always had the time to do so in these places, and the people to inspire me.

I think I'm gonna need a change pretty soon ... I might not last beyond December at work anyway .. the industry's going pretty tits up at the mo, so a backup plan might be a good idea.

Phoomph... that was a rant and a half ...and theres still more to say...

Travels!

Hullo everyone!

I've just come back from a round trip of England/Scotland, visiting Glasgow, Edinburgh, Norfolk, Cornwall, and back to London today! I've been on trains, planes, taxis, coaches, cars, and boats, and seen lots of friends and their degree shows.

I've been suitably inspired by all this, and its now just a bloody shame i'm back to work tomorrow. Yay! I've decided i need to move back to Cornwall, and just need to find a means of doing it that dont involve me doing a pants job, and living off dust and pencil sharpenings. its not asking much eh! :P

I have me a kids book to Illustrate!! Its fun .. good story :) Its going to be good getting some characters sorted out, and improving my people drawing skills (as you might have noticed, there is a distinct lack of people in my portfolio! .. there is a reason for this)

Its also going to be a nice test of time management, and discipline and all that jazz ... a good chance to work with an author too.

I've started to re-vamp my website too .. i'm going to overhaul it, tidy it all up, and make the navigation much easier .. i don't think all the sections does it much justice. I reckon I'll keep it looking pretty similar, just change the way it works.

Anyway ... must crack on!

Help!

Tue Mar 11, 2008, 4:31 PM
Right ... I need help, ... i've got 2 versions of sweethearts cove, (the third in my ghost stories) i've finally painted it all in watercolours, (and ink and gouache) but i had a go sticking a couple of different skies behind it.

Now .. this is where you come in ... i know which one i prefer, but i'd like some opinions if thats alright ... (and any other comments would be appreciated .. i've stared at it for a bit too long, and need fresh eyes ... i think its finished, but i'm not sure....)

I can now use my free time to pursue some other pictures :D YAY!
